How to make sense of this?
At a fundamental level, examining the world cannot reveal anything, because the Masters point that the world has risen from you. Ok. So, paying attention to the things, the people, and phenomena of the world cannot reveal the Truth.
If the world has risen from you, as the Masters point, then you need know this โIโ that you think you are deeply, completely. You need to know yourself.
You may wonder โ but I already know myself. My name is so-and-so. I was born in such-and-such place to my parents. You can go like this and describe your birth facts, your attributes, your relationships, your work, your achievements etc. But who are you?
Asking yourself, โWho am I?โ is the beginning of this inquiry to know yourself. To do so is Self-Inquiry.
Beyond your name, attributes, experiences, history, beliefs, aspirations, relationships, who are you? When all these are stripped away โ and strip away you should, in the inquiry because they are all coming and going โ what remains?
What remains unchanging when all the changing things that want to pass of as โyouโ are set aside?
